As someone always on the hunt for satisfying, yet wholesome snacks, pretzels have always been one of my go-to choices. With their perfect balance of savory and salt, they never fail to satisfy those snack cravings. When I learned about Uncle Jerry’s Pretzels – famous for their small-batch sourdough pretzels made with simple, clean ingredients – I was eager to give them a try. In this Uncle Jerry’s Pretzels review, I’ll share my experience with their products, explore their variety of pretzel options, and reveal which flavors became my personal favorites.
What Makes Uncle Jerry’s Pretzels Special?
With a bakery located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania – the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country – Uncle Jerry’s Pretzels handcrafts their all-natural sourdough pretzels the old-fashioned way. Uncle Jerry’s sourdough pretzels are sugar-free, oil-free, shortening-free, dairy-free, and preservative-free. In the 30 years since Uncle Jerry’s was founded, they’ve expanded their pretzel offering to include their top-selling Extra Dark pretzel, along with chocolate-covered pretzel treats.
Uncle Jerry’s Pretzels Varieties
Hand-crafting over 20 different types of both salty and sweet pretzel snacks, Uncle Jerry’s makes a pretzel for every palate. Their most popular pretzels include the Extra Dark and Specials Salt Pretzels (which we’ll review later). Other pretzels include:
- Whole Wheat Pretzels
- Oat Bran Pretzels
- Chocolate Covered Pretzels
- Extra Salty Pretzels
During the holidays, Uncle Jerry’s offers several great gift options such as their Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites which come in elegant gold gift boxes. Their Uncle Jerry’s Pretzel Bark, available in both Dark Chocolate and Milk Chocolate varieties, has also become a popular gift choice.
Uncle Jerry’s Pretzels Review
With several different types of pretzels to taste test, I started simple – with Uncle Jerry’s Pretzels in Special and Extra Dark. Available in low salt, regular salt, and extra salty, these pretzels are baked to a lovely golden crisp. For the Extra Dark pretzels, Uncle Jerry’s slow-bakes the pretzels until they have a lightly toasted to blackened finish giving them an extra crispy crunch. I loved the flavor of these Pennsylvanian Dutch sourdough pretzels. They’re super crunchy and deliver a hint of sourdough flavor.
Next up, I tried several of Uncle Jerry’s Pretzels chocolate-covered pretzel products. Uncle Jerry’s covers their Specials regular salt pretzels with Wilburs milk or dark chocolate to create their chocolate-covered pretzels.
The chocolate-coated pretzels are also available in pieces, which are essentially broken pieces of pretzels coated in chocolate instead of whole pretzels.
I liked that Uncle Jerry’s does a generous coating of chocolate for their chocolate-covered pretzels. The milk chocolate is smooth and sweet and the dark chocolate has that hint of bitterness. The chocolate tastes like quality chocolate.
In addition to chocolate-coated pretzels, Uncle Jerry’s also makes peanut butter and caramel chocolate-covered pretzel treats.
For some peanut-butter chocolates, there’s a risk of being too much peanut butter. Fortunately, Uncle Jerry’s Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel had the perfect amount of peanut butter so it didn’t overwhelm the flavors of the pretzel or the chocolate.
If you have a weakness for chocolate, the Uncle Jerry’s Pretzel Bark – available in both dark and milk chocolates delivers. The pretzel bark is more chocolate than pretzel – perfect for chocolate cravings, but there’s still plenty of pretzel mixed throughout providing bursts of crunch.
While I enjoyed all of the pretzels I tried, my favorite are Uncle Jerry’s Caramel Dark Chocolate Pretzels. These are smaller pretzels, topped with a layer of smooth caramel, and coated in dark chocolate. I tasted each flavor – chocolate, caramel, and pretzel – in each bite. I love the saltiness and crunch the pretzels bring to the sweetness of the caramel and chocolate.
Uncle Jerry’s Pretzels Review: Final Thoughts
Overall, Uncle Jerry’s Pretzels really impressed me with their flavors and variety. The flavor of their Pennsylvania Dutch sourdough pretzels is more rich and complex than store-bought pretzels I’ve tried. Then, when you top those pretzels with chocolate, it just takes these snacks to another level.
Whether you’re looking for gourmet, hand-crafted pretzels to enjoy for yourself or to gift to someone, I encourage you to try Uncle Jerry’s Pretzels.
